Hi evetyone,

I got this beautiful plate recently (unfortunately there's a crack).
The decoration is typical Chinese 18th century in my view but the shape is not your typical export plate.
Is this a bowl or considered a plate?
What period would it be?

Given the light beige rim I'd assume Kangxi but this decoration I mostly see on Qianlong pieces.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Kind regards,

JJ

It is probably impossible to know for sure which. The peony resembles a Kangxi peony, but some Yongzheng wares also show it. As the Yongzheng reign was too short it might well be that some styles might even have been carried over to the early Qianlong reign.

Hey Peter,

Thanks!
I suppose that's true.
Given the Kangxi peony and light beige rim I'll date it early 18th century.

It's a bit bigger than the usual export pieces (28cm) and a bit better painted too.
Happy with it :)

Kind regards,

JJ
