Hi all,

I bought a Guan type tripod censer and like to know if I did it right.
You can feel the crackles with your fingernail or with a sharp object like a needle.

Is the shape okay and could it be Southern Song?

Teunis

Please read my comment regarding the celadon bowl. It applies to this one too.

Of the five famous Song kilns you have uploaded one each for Ru, Ge and Guan kiln. These are those which are difficult or impossible to find; that means authentic ones, made in the Song dynasty.
Most of them are later copies (Qing) or 20th century.

Hello Peter,

I had sent the pictures to a specialist at Sotheby's and was invited for a hands on inspection. (there was some doubt there).
She carefully looked at the items and this Ge type tripod censer is dated late 19th early 20th century so indeed a copy.
She also confirmed that there are some 7 pieces known in the world that are genuine and from the Song dynasty.

I will start to look for the 8th piece now.

Regards,
Teunis
