Brown Grayish Small Jar Marked

Any idea if Chinese or Japanese, age, mark (inscribed but not very clear)

With this type of paste it is difficult to tell whether the items is old or not. To me this looks overly crude, with too many impurities to look natural.
The mark should always be in the center with Chinese items.
