This vase is marked Tongzhi. From what I understand, Tongzhi period marks are usually not in zhuanti characters. I think this vase may be either Republic or a modern fake. Any ideas?

Thank you

I would rather say only few Tongzhi marks are written using in such zhuanti characters. However, the painting material and style used in the decoration here would not have appeared before the 20th century. The olive green color used would also be hard to find on period items.
I guess that the foot rim feels smoother than those of actual Tongzhi items?

Thanks Peter. The foot is smoother than most late 19th Century vases I have seen (Tongzhi/Guangxu tend to be a bit grainy). Do you think this is Republic period or a modern fake? I agree this decoration could only exist in the 20th Century.

Impossible to tell from these pictures. But high quality fakes are more likely from the second half of the 20th century. I would also like to not that it is the first time I have seen harvested rice fields pictures. Usually, one would only see people working, but not so much detail.
