old vase, any ideas

Hi, we've had this old vase in the family for years,handed down from a few generations now, I remember as a child hearing the adults call it a ming vase, I was just wondering if anyone might have any ideas about the origin, the only mark I think is the 2 characters scribed into the edge of the base, any input would be much appreciated, thanks in advance,

This is Japanese, either kinkozan or satsuma.
