Hello everyone.
Here is such a small vase. Help answer the questions, please. What is it for: flowers, tea, brushes, small diamonds? Was this discoloration due to age or paint? Can you tell when and where the vase is made?

Neither. This shape is called 'ginger jar' in the west and is just a storage jar.
Do I see this right in these pictures? Is the neck glazed but the shoulder unglazed? That would be a first for me.
I would think about mid-Qing dynasty, but could be later depending on the glazing of shoulder and neck.

Thanks for the answer. Peterp, you're right - there's an unglazed ring on the top of the ginger can. Maybe this ring was for the lid? Anyway, thanks again.

Usually the shoulder (the part immediately below the neck) AND the shoulder are either both glazed or unglazed. Yours looks as if the shoulder is unglazed while there seems to be glaze on the neck. That is what is unusual. And yes, that unglazed area is because of the lid.
