I purchased this Kutani teapot at a thrift store today. It is marked ??? on the base in gold with a red background. The art decoration is so-so. I would say late Taisho, maybe 1920s. It also appears to have a western bronze repair to the spout.

This is what gotheborg mark site has to say:

"It is generally accepted that marks that includes "Dai Nippon" in Japanese characters on the whole date to the Meiji (1868-1912) period, reflecting the greatly increased nationalism of that period. "

So I Guess it's from the period.

I think the mark was added at a later time to make it appear more valuable, the decoration gives it away that it is a much later copy.
