The handle is typical for Chinese teapots. The dragon scales are in a mesh pattern (criss cross lines), which means it is Guangxu or later. Perhaps republican period or even later. Any signs of usage?

No significant scrathes. I don't think it was used as a teapot but probably kept on display.  There was a chip on the foot rim that has been repaired but that means nothing I guess. Some impurities and flaws but I guess that does not make it old either. Wonder if they were made on purpose.
Do the decoration and the shades imitate a particular period?

Imitating Kangxi, but the dragons tells something different ... :-)
A later period can copy earlier designs, but the opposite is not possible.

Actually Peter I am finding mesh/cross-hatch scales on Yuan pieces but they were drawn more differently.
