I am very interested to know what Peter thinks of the footrim.

Sorry Shelley, but I do not know much about porcelain items of this "young" age. Not even vintage in my view.

Peter, what I want to know is the ridge , sort of a channel ,on the bottom of this plate. Is this an indication of something? I seemed to have seen this on a late Ching charger.

You may be mixing up a double foot rim with this new rim type...

shelley Kong

Peter, could you show me a double footrim please

peterp

May take time, Shelley. Genuine ones are rare, and mostly from the Kangxi era. Although I heard that later in the Qing dynasty some were made, the ones I see mostly are fakes.
Basically it is just a second foot rim, a few centimeters inside from the outer one. They are only found on 'large' chargers, normally. The inner rim prevents the bottom from sagging, as far as I know.
