Hi there,

I can buy a blue glazed Yongzheng marked terrine.
I have not yet seen it in real.
What are your thoughts about this item?

It is quite expensive. Its over ? 4.000,-

I bet it is brand new. Shape is unconventional. But why should someone want to put two marks of different style on the inside of an item? Why not just one on the bottom?

Some people here think that even top tier auction house items are not always right.
In other words, even auction house items are not always authentic antiques, but high quality fakes make it difficult even for specialists. We should not just rely on them (or pictures) for authenticity when it comes to expensive items.
This would have to be an imperial item if genuine. How many are there to tell for sure? Marks are easily faked. It is better to stay with more or less standard shaped items and decorations if you want to get authentic items.

Dear Peter,

I fully agree.
I showed you guys the bat vase last week and Stan said it could be good. I did a hand on inspection and was convinced it was not an authentic item. The auction master was absolutely sure it was. Apparently other visitors
also judged it not to be authentic since it was not sold in the end.

But anyway like you have said many times already "Never judge on one singe aspect" the whole picture that is what counts.

I really appreciate your effords. Please continue with your good work.

actually I think this piece is quite "exotic". the marks' location and shape are very unconventional, if this piece is really this unique and authentic, this piece should be at least museum quality.

I would doubt this piece is authentic,
the reason is the design of imperial wares is strictly governed by ???, if there is a new design or experiment, the officer would inform the emperor first (can refer to the memorials to throne, written by Tong Ying ??).

Besides, the major stuffs happening during Yongzheng reign were: 1. developing new stuffs such as Enamel glaze and Famille Rose. 2. Mimic/ Reviving the techniques from previous dynasty, such as Ge glaze.

When I first saw this, I thought modern Chinese export, this has to much of a Western influence to be anything else, Im sure that the emperor of the time would not have wanted anything with a western influence.
