Title: Chinese Platter?
Post by: carolfsvt on Dec 17, 2014, 08:56:33
I am very new to learning about Chinese and Asian ceramics.  I have this small oval platter.  It is about 10" X 7 1/4".  Is it Chinese? Asian?  Is it a platter?  Is the orange design a bird?  What type of tree is in the middle?  There are no markings that I can see.  Any information is much appreciated.

Both top and underside decoration look Japanese. The "bird" is a phoenix.

This is Japanese Arita porcelain, the bird is a Ho Ho bird, I think thats how you pronounce it, the flowers are chrysanthemums a typical Japanese decoration, I would think that this is mid 20th century.
