Title: Antique Chinese rooster ??
Post by: Deanne1480 on Sep 18, 2014, 01:20:08
Hello,

We received this rooster as a gift. We were told that it is a Chinese antique.  I was hoping to find out something more about it. It's about 1.5 feet tall.

Thank you in advance for any info!

Could be Japanese, if that is a artisan's signature at the bottom. The Chinese were unlikely to make such life-like figurines until later in the 20th century.

Thanks Peterp! Perhaps it is Japanese. I've looked through countless Chinese stamps and markings online and nothing seems to match. :/

That was my impression as well, Japanese made also it looks like it was made in a mold which would make it modern.
