Title: Help with confirming age
Post by: laurahillg78 on Oct 20, 2023, 22:10:54
Hi there! New member and first post for me. I was wondering if you would be able to help me with more information about a bowl I purchased at a local auction with the description simply being, "Antique Japanese Bowl with Stains"? I was told the mark is Gyōzan and likely made in the 1920's-1930's. Would someone be able to confirm this and offer any additional information? Thank you!

Hi Laura, sorry for taking so long, I think your bowl is from the Ohokawachi factory in Hizen, satsuma style, it bears the Tokugawa family crest on the inside of the bowl the circle with the three leaves, I could not find your mark in my book, the Gozan and Gyozan marks are completely different, but nice bowl, I would say it is early Meiji.
BTW, I think your mark is upside down.
