Title: Famille rose bowl
Post by: Adriano on Apr 22, 2023, 17:18:05
I would like to have comments on this bowl.
It is a big bowl (16 cm dia), probably a soup bowl.
The painting quality is low, but in the medium of similar I have seen, so I think it is a common use bowl.
The mark is Tongzhi, but normally when printed, it is of Guangxu or Republic period.

Thank you.

Hi Adriano,
The mark is all right for Guangxu, but I have some doubts regarding the decoration.
You see that some flowers have petals of different colors, also that some outlines are rather thick. I suspect that this might be an old bowl that has been repainted. Usually, with bowls or dishes of this specific type, the decoration is in a somewhat dilapidated condition with abraded or damaged fencai enamels, due to heavy use, probably. Here the condition seems to show no usage signs. A bit too good for this kind in my opinion. Normally this would mean the item was not used.
