Title: Famille rose bowl
Post by: Adriano on Dec 12, 2022, 22:18:30
I have just bought this bowl.
The mark is Kangxi, but the decoration looks me typical of Tongzhi period.
I would say Tongzhi for the eyes, but decoration itself, could be also Guangxu.
This red printed Kangxi mark is not common on the web.
I would like to have comments on style and period.

Thank you.

Thank you Stan,
it is probably Guangxu, early period.
I say early because the eyes are almost empty.

Yes, eyes look as if it is on the earlier side. The use of a Kangxi mark also appears to point to this time. The piece is in excellent condition, by the way.

the period is no doubt identified.

Hi Peter and Stan,

I would like to point out that the faces outlines are black.
I have some other pieces from Tongzhi to Guangxu period where the faces outlines are light brown.
Is the color indication of a period or both colors were use ?

In the Guangxu reign either would be fine, I think. Tongzhi would be red.
