Title: One more to solve...
Post by: Veri on Jul 23, 2022, 09:34:55
Hello again,
would appreciate, if not too difficult,an age range estimate for this celadon jug?
Could it be Korean pottery?

Is it celadon? It looks gray in these pictures. Indeed, the bottom looks Korean. Goryeo dynasty or early Choseon, about 14th century, I would think. All based on this typical bottom.

Hi Peter,
the overall color in natural light, is a pale but warm milky grey green.
I have attached a close up image of the glaze.. perhaps you could assess as to whether this is a celadon glaze?

I would call this gray, if this is the actual color. Depending on the light some celadons look different. In Chinese many would call that celadon, but the celadons I know or have from Korea all have a clear greenish tint. Never mind, this does not affect what it is.
