Title: Umbrella/Walking stick stand
Post by: ehd1314 on Aug 03, 2014, 18:01:20
Bought this recently and sold to me as early 20th century. Have not seen this shape anywhere else.

Not sure if it is Chinese or a European copy. 18 inches high and quite heavy.

Would welcome any suggestions.

Hi I am no expert but to me looks Japanese and not that old.
Also it is a pedestal for a bowl to sit on-in my opinion.
Not a umbrella or stick stand.

Hi Ehd1314, If this were Chinese it would be recently made, the blue color looks like a chemical color,  and the shape is modern, Calder is right, it dose have a Japanese look to it and could be a little earlier maybe mid 20th century at the most, you guessed it right Calder, it is a pedestal for a Jardiniere.
