Title: Late Qing/ Republic Bowl with Ming Mark>?
Post by: smak on Mar 03, 2021, 00:15:59
Hi all,

I think this might be modern but would like your thoughts! The foot looks modern to me or republic? 1950s?

What do you guys think?

Many Thanks,
Smak

Looking at the type of coloration my first impression was that it is either new if Chinese, or Japanese. But the footrim decoration and its green color looks typical Japanese. Never mind the mark, most marks are apocryphal and have decorative value only.

Thanks Peter! I suspected the same but leaning more Japanese the more I look at it!

If this is Japanese it would have to be new, I have never until now seen everything " decoration that is " outlined in orange, on traditional Japanese and Chinese vintage or antique porcelain the only thing that would be outlined in Orange is faces, robes and flowers and anything else that is orange, not the entire decoration, but I agree with you, it leans more to Japanese maker.

So we probably agree that it is most likely new, and Japanese...

I know what you mean Stan, the decoration is somewhat different from the traditional ones. When I said "coloration" I was referring mainly to the color combination.
