Title: Koi blue and white Chinese plates(bowls)
Post by: samborsu on Nov 24, 2020, 05:59:14
Hello, I have 2 small deep plates (or bowls) koi motif. I know there are modern plates like these, but I would like to know if those are older. I bought those almost 50 years ago. I think they are hand painted because there is a very slight difference in the motifs, and also they are not completely the same in dimensions one is 3.5 cm H, the other one is 4 cm. any idea?

If you bought them 50 years ago, they must have been new at the time. Such plates were made since the late Qing dynasty, over a long time. However, the older ones either do not have a glazed bottom, or a darker blue color and glaze; these are plates used by the common people. They would have been unlikely to have a worm back foot rim, then.
