Hi, Can anyone tell me anything about this very small pot. It's just over 2" tall with a diameter of 2&1/4".
I assume it's a Chinese tea cup but know nothing else about it. It's hand decorated to an extremely fine standard. There are no markings on the underside.
I would be very grateful if anyone could offer some insight into this piece.
Thanks in anticipation. Regards
This is a Japanese tea cup.
Thanks for your reply. I'd love to find out more about it.
I am not sure what it says but it looks like 2nd half 20th century or later.
Probably modern, as Stan says. Looks like some that are still being sold today.
Thanks for your replies. Interesting that they could still be sold today. I've looked on the internet but haven't seen any with this type of decoration. Could you tell me where I might find similar ones as I would quite like to purchase more. Thanks for your help.
This looks like a Satsuma style, so it was probably made in the Kyoto region.
Did you try the Japanese internet? Do an image search for "七福神 茶杯" (seven lucky gods) and you will find similar items, mostly sets rather than single items. This is probably only vintage at the best.
Everyone who lives or lived in Japan knows this type of decoration/item as it is very common.
That's great, thank you for your info. and suggestions, I'll try the Japanese internet. Much obliged.
