Title: Qianjiang style vase
Post by: Adriano on May 24, 2020, 18:49:57
I would like to buy this vase, but I am in doubt for period.
As general impression, it looks me Early Republic, but the calligraphy is too new without any rubbing.
Is it a later production, 1940s?

Thank you for comments.

Hi Adriano,
You are right with your concern, I'm afraid. While the vase body and the abraded gilt of the 'ears' points to late Qing or early republic, the black color of hair and writing is in too good a condition. The character style seems also not to be of the earlier period. It seems as if the decoration is not from the same time as the vase body itself.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your comments.
Too many doubts, it is better to leave it.

With my best regards,
