Title: Famille rose vase
Post by: Adriano on Nov 19, 2019, 21:18:43
I would like to have comments on this vase, 23 cm tall.
Mark and decoration, in particular faces look me Tongzhi.
Could it be of period or later?
Thank you,
Adriano.

To me colours, decoration and faces looks good for late Qing. I can not say, if it can be Tongzhi, feels (no knowlegde, really only a feeling) more like Guangxu.

Thank you Konniela, you could be right.
This printed Tongzhi mark was used later too, and it is not the key point.
What is different is the outline of the face near the ears and the hairstyle, I think.
I know that my knowledge is so limited and I can be wrong.
Another thing I do not know is if the bottom is right for Tongzhi.
Attached are more pictures.

I would attribute this to Tongzhi. The empty eyes are more typical for that. I call these 'ghost eyes' because of their eerie look. If it were Guangxu the eyes frequently have tiny black dots as pupils within the red eyes, and the faces often show other lines too, not only the contours.

Really good Adriano, you are right. I will remember the ghost eyes very well.
