Title: Flowers Plate Marked Nippon
Post by: kardinalisimo on Jul 02, 2014, 02:55:08
The foot rim is slanted on the outside(not very sharply) and straight on the inside. Somehow it does not show right on the pictures. Is that a common base for Japanese plate?
Any suggestions on age and what kind of ware it is, Kutani?
Thanks

Hi Kardinalisimo, you know that Nippon is the name for Japan, that would date your plate from 1891 to 1921, it looks like they are copying the Chinese famille Noir design, I think the  foot is right and would be from the later of that time frame.

Thanks for the reply Stan.
Yeah, I know that the exported to US pieces had to have the Nippon mark during that period.
The plate is not of superb quality so I guess it is not worth investigating on the maker.
Seems like that only the Noritake and maybe few others are highly collectible.
