Title: hairline cracks
Post by: ssbill on Jan 12, 2019, 14:02:09
Should an hairline crack be visible on both side of a porcelain dish?
I have a plate with a very small 3mm crack on the rim but only visible on front side. There is no crack on the back side of the dish. Is it a hairline or a glaze line? Thanks

A glaze line exists only in the glaze, not the porcelain body. A hairline crack is a very narrow, tight crack than can be both in either the clay body, the glaze, or both. Thus, a glaze line is usually also a hairline crack.
