Title: help me with the mark
Post by: thanh trinh on Sep 06, 2018, 18:45:44
Hi Peter and everyone!
a dealer shows me this bowl.
I think it is a Kangxi ware.
Pls tell me what does the mark says? and is it a minyao?
Thanks a lot
Regards

Yes it is minyao. Can you upload a partial picture of the mark? Too small to be sure what the first two characters are.
It probably says "??????", which means that it is 'imitating old porcelain' and was made by Liugeng Tang or Hall (a business mark, apparently).
This is listed as a Qing dynasty mark, but not from when, exactly.

Hi Peter!
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately, I've got only those photos,
The dealer said that it was a Yuanyao, so he want as much as USD 2.000. So. I have to forget him and his bowl.
Thanks a lot
See you on next topic

Be careful. It is not the mark, the decoration itself is far from a Yuan decoration too. I do not mean this is not old, but it is from the Qing dynasty. This Liugeng Hall are apparently known for their manufacturing in the old style, and they write this in the mark. The price is a bit stiff for a Qing dynasty item, though.
