Can anyone give me an idea of what I am dealing with here?

Hi Rex, could you post a picture of the mark on the lids, it is hard to see in your photo's these are clearly Japanese made, the mark looks like Hizen made.

Why not showing the characters on the lids? These have some resemblance to Chinese export tea caddies.

The marks on the lid say "Hichozan Fukagawa Sei" ( ??? ???).

These would be pretty rare in my opinion, depending on the size, I think Peter is right, Japanese tea caddies, thanks Mat for the meaning of  the characters.
