Title: Late Qing style vase
Post by: Pablo82 on May 22, 2018, 14:48:17
Hi Peter, Stan and members,

Please your expertise on this vase, h 58 cm. Is there a cyclical date, a signature of an artist? What scene is depicted?

Thank you very much!

I'm afraid this is neither late Qing nor early republic. This sort of painting style is typical for about 1950s and later. This is a modern painting style.
Then there is a cyclical year which would conform to 1919 or 1979. I do not think this could be the earlier one. Whether 1979 is right is difficult to tell. There is a possibility that the vase body and part of it (the writing) is older, but the painting with the water buffalo is more recent. Unfortunately, usually the latest work done is taken as the age of an item.
