If it is from a legally lifted shipwreck, then there should be catalogs viewable somewhere online. Otherwise, look for Ming dynasty or contemporary items from Vietnam.
The bottom looks Chinese, but I could not tell right away if the patterns are Chinese or Vietnamese, as the latter are very similar to the Ming dynasty ones. As far as I know at the time many Chinese kiln workers had emigrated to work at Vietnamese kilns.
The periods of the stylized lotus petal decoration and bottom do not go together, if it is Chinese, thus it is more likely porcelain from Annam, in my view.

Hi Peterp,

I was just told that it was taken off a shipwreck in 1997.

Could you guess the age of this bowl?

Thanks!

Could this also be a forgery?

How old does it look? Late Ming perhaps?

As I said, about Ming dynasty, but in my opinion more likely made in Vietnam. Not quite sure, though. We seldom see decorations like this on domestic Chinese porcelain.
The year you mention could relate to the Lena Shoal shipwreck. Looks like genuine shipwreck porcelain.
