Title: kangxi mark monochrome vase
Post by: ssbill on May 01, 2018, 04:41:37
Hi
What do you think of this? It doesn't look like the late qing / republic pieces with  kangxi marks. The provenance is credible so it might be something interesting. I understand monochrome are difficult to date. Thanks

Hi Ssbill, the bottom doesn't look like Qing to me, it looks more 20th century.

Probably 20th century, as Stan said. This is a Song dynasty shape. Such early items were also copied in the Qing dynasty, sometimes by the imperial kiln. However, the almost horizontal shape of the shoulder and mouth (the parts connecting to the neck) makes it likely a later item. The Qing copies would usually have copied the shape accurately, but with a Qing foot rim.
