Title: Japanese (?) High Relief Crab Vase
Post by: osbornes on Mar 24, 2018, 02:53:49
Can someone help with identifying this pottery mark?  Was passed on to me by my father who spent time in Vietnam and Japan.  Thanks for any leads.  Appreciate your help.

I don't think its from Europe although Grebar and Dalpayrat did produce "Alien inspiration" pottery similar to this one. What is it about crabs?.......Best wishes

Hi David, this could be anything, it looks like it has an R in the mark which would lead me to believe not Asian, it has a Sumida look to it but they did not mark their items this way and Japanese and chinese potters were always copied around the world, so my guestamation is 20th century potters mark, not Asian.
