Title: Giant Urn/Vase - Modern? Chinese?
Post by: Carol L. on Feb 27, 2018, 09:37:10
Hello again.  Thank you so much for identifying ceramic pieces I have obtained at estate auctions for which I know nothing about at the time of purchase. (I spend between $5.00 and $45.00 U.S., but I wouldn't recommend my method for anything more expensive than this!)

Here is a large and heavy urn or vase I recently purchased.  Is it  a modern piece?

Thank you for any information you can give me.

The faces alone can tell us that this is hardly older than late 20th century.

Great; thank you.  I suspected as much, thanks to the good information in this website -- it just looked too new, and the handles seem odd-looking compared to the rest of the piece, not to mention the base and the heavy-handed yellow paint.

So faces -- on the modern pieces they should be rather whispy (the hair) and thinly-painted w/fine brush strokes?  And older faces have more solid hair paint?

Trying to be a good student........thanks much!
