Title: Tea dust vase
Post by: williamh on Dec 23, 2017, 09:36:30
Is this what you'd call a tea dust glaze ? I couldn't get a photo of the bottom because it was too heavy to lift. The mark is hard to read

With these photo's it is hard to tell, could be a tea dust glaze but the shape looks modern to me.

A tea dust glaze should have a slightly greenish tint.
The shape is similar to that produced by some kilns in the Song~Ming dynasties, I think. However, the details of the ears (handle type side decoration) and mouth seem too elaborate for those, and the mouth appears to be turned downwards a bit too much.
Anyway, without a bottom it is impossible to date this. That there is a mark means that it probably is more recent.
