Title: The real fake?
Post by: Beagletorque on Sep 09, 2017, 00:40:06
I recently acquired a blue and white cut corner bowl.  After much googling about, I drew a bit of a blank on what it might be exactly.  Then I find a similar version on eBay which is a copy of my copy?  This is the eBay item [link removed by admin - please avoid posting links to commercial sites, especially Ebay, as these are often unreliable sources]

What I want to find out is what is the story on the fan panels all about?  Is it a well known theme?  A westerner visits china?

Is it Chinese? Is it porcelain?

Size is about 9 1/2" across and 4 1/2" high and about 3lb 12oz.

My version in the attached pictures seems to be a more refined version with more detail in the "brush work".  By contrast the items above the fan panels are the same 4, but above different panels.

Any information gratefully received.

Japanese shape and decoration. At least part of the decoration seems to be transfer printed.
Human figures wear Chinese attire, but they show details as they were painted only from the 20th century in China.
I would say dubious...most likely a fake.
