Title: BW Plate Age
Post by: bokaba on Aug 30, 2017, 10:42:47
Hi Stan and Peter,

I was wondering what your thoughts on this plate were. I think it may be Kangxi. I really like the decoration with the central lotus blossom surrounded by ice cracked prunus. I think this plate may be an export for either the Dutch or Islamic markets. What do you think of the mark?

Thank you,

Bokaba

Hi Bokaba, this looks very nice, the shape looks like Kangxi but the scalloped edge looks more late 18th century, it look like a bowl instead of a plate, the mark is a Kangxi flower mark with double circle, but it could be later.

Thanks Stan. I was able to find a similar plate with scalloped edges and decoration in "Export Porcelain in North America" identified as late 17th Century Kangxi.

Thank you

Thanks Bokaba for the update, I wasn't sure about the scalloped edge, that is good to know that the Kangxi period did the scolloped edges like this.
