This are 20th century to maybe modern Chinese "shard boxes". Basically when an antique piece is broken or is irreparable or missing pieces, They grab the remaining pieces, give them shape and make boxes with the shards.

While yours looks as if it was from a 19th century antique, maybe one should add that they also use sometimes shards from fake antiques, not only those of genuine ones.
