Hi Calder, very interesting vase, I do not think I have ever seen such a foot rim before, looks like it could be stone ware, Im not sure on this one, it looks more Chinese than Japanese, depending on the size it could be a storage jar.

Hi Calder, Awaji pottery did come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, but the colors were a little brighter and would have an iridescent look to it, also I have never seen a foot rim like the one on yours, Awaji has a typical stylized foot rim.
