Title: Sancai Stem Bowl
Post by: kardinalisimo on May 28, 2017, 23:07:52
I'd think a modern piece but wonder if such shape existed back then?

Never saw such a shape before. Without a hands-on inspection it is difficult to say more than that the color of the fired clay should be white.
I would keep away from such wares, unless you have an opportunity to inspect many in some museum first. There are too many fakes.

Yeah I know about the many fakes. I bought it as a decorative piece as the price was right and I like the shape.
There is some dirt on the bisque but it comes off easily and the clay seems to be white. It absorbs water fast and tongue sticks to it but I don't know how reliable are those tests. There are many pinholes in the glaze, is that normal?
