Post by: kardinalisimo on Apr 29, 2014, 10:54:14
Don't find a lot of age marks so wonder if it is recent or antique?
Thanks

Hi Kardinalisimo, This is a recently made vase, there are a lot of these coming out of China right now, this is trying to copy the guangxu period.

Hi Stan. Can you tell me how to tell fake from real in this particular vase? Like, what exactly is giving up the piece not being old?
Thanks

The bottom, there is no age signs, and the decoration on the bottom is not evenly spaced, and I am guessing that there is no scratches either, I can't tell by these photos but I am pretty sure the finish on the vase in general would have no scratches, and some of the really good fakes have scratches but you can tell if it was done all at once or like the real old antiques different types of scratches all over, made over years of handling. The best way is to check for ware, if an item has no ware chances are that it is more recently made.
