Title: Interesting Brown Urn
Post by: jstav on Jan 31, 2017, 09:11:58
Here's another interesting item that my grandmother gave to me.  Can anyone please tell me what it is, and what it says?

This is likely Yixing stoneware.
Not very old in my view. The carving would be dark in old wares, only relatively fresh carving is whitish in color. Over a long time the carved areas will become equalin color or darker than the surrounding surface.
I am not translating all, but the first character is "?", which means 'imitate"; this is usually used when an artist or craftsman is copying the work or idea of another. The seal mark is ? (yan) which means 'rock'.
