Title: Yellow Stem Cup
Post by: wk on Aug 19, 2016, 21:35:09
Got this nice and very small stem cup at an auction. Is it old or new?
The mouth is 14cm, height 11cm, foot 4.5cm.
Thank you!

its an Ming dynasty mark off the emperor Hongzhi. horizontal marks were sometimes used in the Ming dynasty. but then also often used for fakes nowadays. it seems that during the reign of Hongzhi, that there are quite some porcelain pieces made with incised illustrations and yellow glaze like your stemcup. now i am not sure if that piece of yours is old or new. personally i think it might be a copy. there many ming dynasty copied pieces with horizontal marks out there. but i might have missed some things that could be key to it being real. i am sure there some others who will know it better then me.
