Title: Imari Bowl
Post by: bokaba on Aug 07, 2016, 06:32:14
I also picked up this Imari type bowl. It has some serious condition issues. It is unmarked, but my guess is late 19th Century, Chinese Imari, or modern.

This is Japanese Imari made in Arita, you are right about the age late Meiji.

Stan, since there is no export mark, does that mean it was made before the McKinley Tariff Act in 1890? Since they were $5, maybe I'll go buy some more tomorrow.

The marking requirement was a requirement for US imports only.  You could not be sure if they were originally imported into the US, I assume?  It could have been brought in much later.
