Title: Famille Rose Garden Stool
Post by: emanresa on Apr 10, 2014, 13:31:33
Hi Peter,

I have a hexagon shaped porcelain Famille rose garden stool. It is very heavy and looks to be old. There are several scenes depicted and some Chinese characters. The top of the seat is not completely flat and it looks to be a mistake in the firing process. I would like to know if it's 19th Century, older or younger? What do the characters mean? And finally, what is the scene depicting?

Thank you!

The Chinese words mean that someone is getting a promotion in the civil service. From what I've learned on this forum, I would say the vase is mid 20th century, from the colours and the black lines and the faces. I hope Peter will agree with me!
