Don't know what to think of it. Recent, Old, trying to fake or just bad execution? All, I know is that the paint job is pretty sloppy. What are those characters reading?
Thanks
It gives the impression of being Japanese, especially the lid, but not strong enough to be sure.
However, the bottom looks as if there was a try at age faking, as does the unglazed rim. This brown color almost always is unnatural. and can not be removed.
There is an "Imari" mark. I don't know if any Japanese items were marked "Imari", ever...
Imari is the port from which various kilns exported porcelain, not a production center itself.
Could be a Chinese fake trying to look like Japanese porcelain, in my view.
Hi Peter Is the ridging on the base quite significant in authentic pottery does it not point to a specific time?
Remember reading this some where-but for the life of me cant remember.
I never saw that. There is actually no reason for it not being flat or having a foot rim.
