Title: Shallow bowl
Post by: Mike on Dec 09, 2015, 05:53:44
Hi all

Thank you all so much for the help. I believe this is the last item that I have. It's got some mark in Chinese on the bottom. Don't know if it means anything. It's fairly nice but again I don't know much about this topic. Thank you again.

Millefiori (mille fleur) decoration and spurious Qianlong mark. The prominent black outlines of the flowers and gilt background are typical for a 20th century item.

FYI, the Chinese has two Chinese name for this decoration, which mean "the hundred flowers don't fall on the ground" and "the hundred flowers do not show the ground". Both hint to the fact that the original, antique millefiori decorations did leave virtually no ground visible. All of the background was covered in flowers...
