Hello,
I found a couple of earthenware green tea caddies. The first one has a strong kind of dark green color. will this be early republic??? any information provided will be of much appreciate it.
an extra photo
The second one has a lighter green color more of a pastelist color and the glaze is really badly done on this one. This one has the bottom part with transparent glaze
They both have drops of glaze going down... any information will be of much appreciate it.
If the differences shown here are those you mentioned, I do not think this can be used for different dating, etc. The caddies shown below all seem to be about the same age. Variations in color can occur from batch to batch, this can be caused by slight differences in the glaze composition, but often they are caused by differences in kiln temperature; the latter can also differ according to the locatiion inside the kiln, during the same firing. Whether the glaze runs depends also depending on one of those conditions. Late Qing in my view.
Thank you Peterp,
I learned a lot. Thank you once again for all your help.
