This is a heavy little jar.  Is it safe to store tea bags in it?

It is impossible to tell what this is, with only two pictures. However, the painting style looks more Japanese.

As I thought. A Japanese (possibly replacement) lid, and the lug is also not typical Chinese. This in addition to the Japanese style painting can leave only one conclusion:  Japanese

I have one of these I purchased new about 40years ago, I Can't remember where I bought it but it was new when I bought it, I think I still have it somewhere.
