Title: Shipwrecked Qing Bowl
Post by: Garrett on Jun 04, 2015, 05:33:28
Hey guys

I've owned this bowl for a while and believe it to be mid to late Qing but am not sure. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it. I'm not good with shipwrecked items. Thanks again.

Qing dynasty, possibly on the earlier side. This is an item used by the common folks, with a simple transfer printed decoration. The unglazed ring on the inside is because during firing in the kiln many were stacked to save place.

Not sure why you think this is a shipwreck item? Anything in the sea may be subject to a bleaching effect. Usually, shipwreck items would not have the brown color after being in the sea. It would be more conforming to something excavated.

I thought it was shipwrecked because I saw it as later Qing. So, I believed it may have been corroded by sea salt since it fit my (lack of) understanding of the time period, and the effects of corrosion. Thanks for the clarification Peter.

Peter was the blue transfer done later in the 20th century?
