Hi Peter,

Do you think this pear shaped vase is genuine or a fake one.

Thank you,

Wan

Fake, and the decoration is not necessarily Chinese. Some details are just not right.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your comment on my vase. I bought this vase on earlier days when started to have an interest on chinese ceramic. After gaining some knowledge, I am not really comfortable with the shape of this vase. it's a bit lack of beauties. although, about the decoration, I have seen another piece from an website which a bit similar to mine. the owner seems to have a very good knowledge of chinese porcelain.

www.koh-antique.com/s20/m12.htm

Iam not seeking an argument, just want to broader my knowledge of chinese porcelain.

Thank you,

Wan

The items on that website should generally be all right, as far as I can see.
The shape of your vase is fine. It is a typical Yuhu Chunping shape.
The problem is with the decoration just below the banana leaves on the neck. I have never seen this on Chinese porcelain. But the stylized lotus petals below that and along the foot rim are also somewhat unusual. Even if these were all right, the unglazed bottom is still a problem. This would have to be early Ming, but the bottom is unlikely.
