Title: Another Jug I Own With An Unidentified Mark
Post by: newcollector on Mar 02, 2014, 16:36:07
This jug has on its front what appears to be a man riding a camel. On the side of the jug is a carving of a leaf of some sort. And on the bottom of the jug are two chinese charcters. I know the first charcter means "Great", but I can't figure out what the second character means. So similar to my last post, my questions are what does the mark mean? And is this a genuine antique or another dud?

Not sure why you think this is Chinese. The mark can be added by anyone as this appears to be metal.
The second character shows that the person engraving it had no idea of Chinese characters/writing. It is unreadable.
The jug has a non-Chinese shape. But the one thing which I am not sure of is... the camel looks more like the type in the Middle East and northern Africa.

another thing, this looks like an aluminum alloy which did not come about until modern times.
