Title: Porcelain cricket box or incense box
Post by: elizabeth on May 13, 2015, 09:18:57
Porcelain cricket box  or incense box ?  Old or modern reproduction?    I was wondering why the inside bottom of the box has raised round nubs.  They don't seem to have any purpose.    It reminds me of a soap dish but since it has a lid that does not seem likely.    I do have the feeling that this is nothing but it never hurts to check it out.

This is not a reproduction, it is just a more recently made product. Decoration, and base, as well as bottom color are all not that old, and the spurious Ming mark is only for decoration. For a reproduction or fake I would expect that an old item would have been imitated.

And, it is a soap box. That is why there are protrusions.
